Are you facing the issue of Dishwasher Leaking Water from the bottom or from the front? Then you have come to the right place. Here we have given tips on how to fix it. Dishwasher is a very useful appliance in our home. It also uses a lot of water and has a lot of moving parts. Due to this, if some parts become faulty then you will get the issue of Dishwasher Leaking Water. You need to do some troubleshooting to fix the issue.
Why Is My Dishwasher Leaking Water and How to Fix It
Your dishwasher leak from bottom or from the front or from some component in the dishwasher can be due to many reasons. You have to find the source of leak and repair that part. Lest proceed to possible causes and its fixes for dishwasher leaking water.
Fix#1: Defective Pump or Pump Seal
If the pump or pump seal is defective then it causes the dishwasher to leak water. The main function of pump is to supply water to the dishwasher. On many models, it also helps in draining the water out. You can find the pump at the bottom of the dishwasher. Pump consists of many two compartments, one is used for washing/circulation of water and the other one is for draining the water. The pump part, which is used for circulating water, usually contains filters and a wash impeller. The Pump part which is used for draining consists of a chopper blade, diverter and a drain impeller.
A rubber gasket will help in sealing the pump to the bottom of the tub. With excessive usage or if the dishwasher becomes old, the rubber gasket will worn out and hence creating a leak from which water can escape, so creating the issue of dishwasher leaking from bottom. There will also be seals in the two compartments of pump (wash and drain) which helps in preventing any leakage of water. They can also be worn out and can create leak problems. These leaks are very hard to notice and you need to remove the access panel at the bottom of the dishwasher to identify the issue. Replace the faulty parts and hopefully the issue will be resolved.
Fix#2: Using Wrong Detergent
You should also check whether you are using the correct or wrong detergent in the dishwasher. Using the wrong detergent can cause the formation of more suds. These excessive suds can overflow and can show up as a drip which can cause leaking of water. So make sure to use the correct detergent.
Fix#3: Door Gasket has worn out
If you see your Dishwasher leaking from front, then the issue might be due to the faulty door gasket. The dishwasher door gasket (also known as seal) is usually located around the door or is located at the tub opening. It is made of viny or soft rubber and creates a water tight seal. Some models of dishwasher will also have rubber baffles which you can find at the bottom of the corner of where the tub opens. Its function is to stop leakage.
As time passes by, these rubber gaskets can get worn out and hence can become loose or can break. When this happens then water can leak from the dishwasher. Inspect carefully the gasket and rubber baffles. If you see any signs of wear and tear or it is broken then it needs to be replaced. Also make sure that everything is positioned correctly as any imbalance in the dishwasher can cause the water leakage problem.
Fix#4: Faulty Water Inlet Valve
The main function of the water inlet valve is to feed the water to the dishwasher from the main water supply source. You can find it behind the lower kick plate. If it is faulty then you can face the issue of “Why Is My Dishwasher Leaking Water” issue. You need to inspect the Water Inlet Valve. Check that it is securely held and has no sign of leakage.
Normally the valve outlet has a rubber/plastic hose valve which is connected to the dishwasher tub. Also check if there are any cracks or any signs of wear and tear in the water hose. If you find any fault then replace it with the new one.
Fix#5: Faulty Dishwasher Spray Arm
The main function of Dishwasher’s spray arm is to spray water and detergent into the dishwasher. Most of the dishwasher has a spray arm and is located at the below part of the dishwasher. Sometimes it may also be located at the top of the dishwasher tub. These are mostly made of plastic.
After a long time of use, they can get worn out and get cracked up. So the spraying pattern of water will change and hence the water can go to the bottom of the door and hence the leakage can occur. Sometimes holes in the spray arms have blockage and this can also result in leakage of water from the dishwasher. To solve this, you need to take out the spray arms and clean them. If there is any damage or crack in it, then you should replace it.
Fix#6: Faulty Dishwasher Dispensers Gasket
Dispenser is usually located on the inside door panel on most dishwashers. It is normally sealed with a gasket to stop any leakage of water. If the water is leaking from the front of the dishwasher, it might be due to faulty dispenser gasket. Check for any wear and tear. If it is damaged then replace it.
Fix#7: Bad or Stuck Float Switch
The float switch is usually located at the bottom of the dishwasher. Inspect it carefully, and see if it is not stuck and the float switch is working properly. Take a multimeter and do a continuity test to see if it is working or not. If continuity test fails then the float switch is faulty. Replace the bad Float switch with the new one.
